Hey! I found you on ModDB just by a coincidence, really. I thought your starships looked like Kalthaniell's designs. I use them in a Distant Worlds mod of mine ( Human Revolution) and they're really excellent. Good choice. I'm mostly a strategy player myself, but space trading games and RPG's are of interest as well. I am really looking forward to seeing the continued progress of this game. Watching the videos and screenies, I'm really impressed with what you've done so far. I'm interested in seeing what you're going to do with the crew; what I've read so far of them being intelligent with an AI is the sort of stuff that interest me. I'm really into "story creation engines"; that's why I like stuff like, indeed, Distant Worlds, because although its technological simplicity it creates a million stories far better and way more intricate than for an example Skyrim or some other fancy graphical masterpiece. Crusader Kings II by Paradox is another great example. The best of luck with the game! I'm following!

Hey Antiscamp, thanks for following and even signing up on the forums! I saw Kal's ships on Distant Worlds and I emailed him and he said I could use them so long as the game is free. I am working on VOD 'partly' full time, I have a full time job, I am an adult student at school (sad face) and have a large family of my own lol. If VOD reaches a quality worthy of sale I might decide to attach a price to it, but not to fear, because that price would be less than 10 dollars, and if it failed to sell well, I would even release it for free AND keep developing it! There are some things I need which I can't get right now to further development, but that is way down the road. I also love Distant Worlds, though I've not played it since I started development, development on a project like this can be fickle, if I allow myself even one play of Distant Worlds, it could end up sucking up way too much free time Kal is a busy man, I asked him to come on board as an artist, and create other stuff, he agreed that when he had time he would submit stuff, but he has not had much time, art work can be as time consuming as programming unfortunately. As for the crew, funny you specifically like that idea, since I just stepped off the combat system a bit to make a pass at the crew system. Your crew will gain experience with you as you do stuff, and this experience is not just aesthetic but functional, you can assign crew to different stations, and based on their experience in that area they will increase the efficiency there. Right new 'crew' are more going to be officers: Chief Engineer, Chief Tactical, Chief Operations, etc... and they will be like their department heads. They are the ones you assign. I am also working to give them personality. They will communicate with you on a normal basis through your voyage, and they will keep you up to date on events occurring, they will warn you of dangers, warn you of nearby things to explore, etc. But with gain there can be pain, the crew have stress, if they have a high incidence of stress, the next time you dock at a station, they might leave your ship! They can even die on the voyages, if you are taking hits without shields/armor, and if you have hull damage, your oxygen levels slowly deplete, if its at 0, then they begin to slowly lose health. But not to worry, they aren't weak, nor easily stressed, so it won't be a system to frustrate players, merely to get the player to grow with and become attached to their officers.

Your ideas for the crew sound really interesting. I'm really lookng forward to it! I know what you mean about Distant Worlds. It really takes a lot of time and interest on my part too. It is my favourite strategy game since like Civilization IV or Europa Universalis III. Until I found DW I thought they didn't make games like that anymore!

I hope shadows is much harder. Aside from the broken economy in late game, any ship can be designed to be big. Just slap on hab modules and life support on frigates/destroyers and they are as good as dreads. Therefore the AI can never compete with my designs since he's still producing crappy ships. I suggested on their forums that they let ship classes be ship classes, if I can put hab/life support modules on a destroyer and stick on as many guns/shields as a dread then what's the point of ship classes?
