Hey everyone, here is a preview of what is coming in the near future for VOD:
Note: Collision optimization is still being tested, not going to rush it.
Preview of Next Update 1.0.7.7
The new view screen design is done and in.
A little redesign and streamline on the shipyard interface.
January
The original design nor expanded design included the mission system, but I wrote one anyway. It just is not complete, but very far along. Now that the game is stable, I can continue to add features up to a point. Since feature creep can be dangerous, I didn't want to delay it just for features I wanted in, which weren't originally planned.
The mission system will include a variety of missions involving game play. You will receive them from Interstellar Fleet Command. You are free to decline them of course. As some might be too difficult given the state of your ship early on, so there is no penalty for declining. You will gain prestige from them, which means you can rank up sooner and gain access to bigger ships faster.
Some people like sandboxes, some like linear scripted stuff, and some like both. With that in mind since VOD is basically a non linear rpg already, some of the missions will also help to introduce you to certain aspects of the game which might otherwise go unnoticed by players who are not keen to explore. For example some will ask you to journey to X to meet with X race. Or it might ask you to journey to meet with X race, to obtain X technology.
However, if you interact with the aliens normally by hailing them, they give you lots of clues, and other places to investigate.
I am shooting to release this update by the end of January. In between I'll still fix any reported bugs. Thanks Michael. Fixed that one.
Distant Future:
I would love to add ship interiors and interaction as well as planetary exploration, however, given the size and time these features would take to develop, it would only make sense to do so if there is enough support for the game. So if you like the game and see its potential, please share it with your friends via your social media outlets and forums where you frequent.
Thanks.
