Hey guys, the new video has garnered some questions from folks on exploration. I hope to be brief here, but you know these posts end up long.
Void of Darkness (VOD) takes on a hybrid rogue like approach. While you can save your game, you can only do so at a space station. This means that once you leave a station, until you return or find another one in your travels, you cannot save the progress you have made on that journey until then. This adds a level of tension and is not intended to frustrate you.
Preparing for a long exploration journey should entail gathering enough supplies for your crew ( they consume supplies ), fuel, and technology to survive hostile encounters. The better equipped you are the more confident you should feel about exploring longer.
While out in the void, the dynamic event system handles events based on the state of the game world. Who is at war with who, who has a dispute with whom. Suppose two particular alien nations are at war, and you are allied with one of them you might receive a distress call from one of their ships under attack. Also if war has broken out, the alien nations will attack each others possessions, and you can defend or help if you wish. If a nearby space station is under attack they will call for help and you can respond.
Additionally pirates roam the void and they have pirate bases as well. They will ambush you.
Then there are artifacts, places of interest and technology to discover on the various planets throughout. Your ships crew (having scanned the planet) will alert you to the presence of anything unusual and tell you where it is and then you can decide to check it out. Instead of having to go to each planet individually, your tactical view at full scale can see distances that are ‘minutes’ worth of warp speed travel from your current location. You can call up the scan window to see the information about the planets.
Another place of interest you might encounter are anomalies. Anomalies for the moment are of two types and you have to scan them to figure which one they are. Type 1 anomalies are stable wormholes and can lead to fixed points very far away. Fluxes are quite different, you never know what will happen when you enter one, but suffice to say that they do have the possibility of leading to another fixed point like a wormhole. But just because you entered from one side and it dropped you out another flux far away, don’t think that it leads back to where you left. This is the unpredictable nature of a flux and why your crew and everyone else will always advise you never to enter one. Unless you are a true explorer!
That’s it for now, thanks for reading!
